Shinkai is an open source platform for building, deploying, and orchestrating AI agents that run locally or connect to remote models. It provides a no-code visual agent builder so non-developers can assemble specialized agents and multi-agent teams through drag-and-drop workflows. The project targets privacy-sensitive and decentralised use cases by supporting local-first deployment, built-in crypto payment and DeFi interactions, and compatibility with Model Context Protocol to interoperate with multiple model providers. The repository contains a cross-platform desktop application based on Tauri and React plus a monorepo of shared libraries and node binaries that implement messaging, state management, UI components, and internationalization. The goal is to democratize agent creation so users can compose agents that coordinate complex, multi-step tasks and transact autonomously while keeping keys and sensitive data under user control.
